About
I'm Michael Mueller, a graphic designer, illustrator, fabricator and racer from Wisconsin. Ever since I can remember, I’ve enjoyed drawing racecars. As a child I chose Michael Andretti, Jeff Gordon and Dave Blaney as my favorite drivers because I thought their cars looked the coolest. Fast forward to the present day where my experience as a racecar driver and designer have only furthered my fascination with racecar livery design. My drawing tools have advanced from crayons to computer illustration software, but the enjoyment of creation remains the same. The genesis of this project was to give my creative energy a point of focus. Indycars and Sprint Cars are my two favorite forms of motorsport to watch as a fan. I also have a great appreciation for the history of the two racing disciplines. I began researching the liveries of past Indycar champions and came up with the idea to create a collection of illustrations of all the Indycar champions, starting with the most recent and working back to the beginning of the CART era in 1979. The result is a visual timeline showcasing over 4 decades worth of Indycar, Champ Car, IRL and CART champions. During the motorsport hiatus in 2020, sim racing gained a new audience of racing fans desperate for some motorsport competition. Like many, I found myself with a new level of interest in virtual racing. This led me to join iRacing and have some fun with my favorite cars; Indycars and Sprint Cars. These cars needed proper liveries and my attention quickly turned from driving them to painting them. I enjoy exploring fantasy designs, repurposed retro and real life liveries. This website will showcase a variety of my livery designs, many available for use on iRacing.
